Product Description
AISI 420 JIS SUS420J1 DIN 1.4021 Stainless Steel Round Bar
1: 420 Steel Introduction
420 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel that has the same corrosion resistance as 410, but also has higher strength and hardness. It also retains its magnetic properties under annealed and hardened conditions. Alloy 420 has a higher carbon content than alloy 410, has good ductility in the annealed state, and is capable of hardening to a Rockwell hardness of 50 HRC, the highest hardness of the 12% chromium grade.

6: 420 Steel Application
420 is widely used in aviation, power, petrochemical, ship, machinery, electronics, environmental protection and other industries.
7: 420 Steel Heat Treatment
420 may be achieved by slowly increasing the temperature to 1400° F, and then heated to 2000° -2200° F for hot working. The temperature is typically maintained above 1600° F. After work, cool the furnace slowly to avoid cracking. 420 can only withstand slight cold working.
Annealing: 420 stainless steel can be heated at 840 to 900° C, then slowly cooled at 600° C, and then air cooled.
Hardening: Heat at 980-1035° C and then air or oil quench. For parts, oil quenching is generally preferred.
Tempering: 150-370℃ for high hardness and good mechanical properties. 420 shall not be tempered between 425 and 600° C.
