Product Description
SUP6 9620 60Si2Mn 60Si7 Spring Steel
1: AISI 9260 Steel Introduction
AISI 9260 spring steel is the good old AISI 1060 spring steel with added Silicone(Si), whole ~2% of it, which makes 9260 steel much more shock resistant and tougher than AISI 1060 steel. Therefore, the 9260 steel becomes a better choice for large, hard use blades. And indeed it is a popular choice for sword making.

7: AISI 9620 Steel Application
Blades, sword.
8: Heat Treatment
Annealing
To produce a coarse to fine spheroidal structure, parts should be austenitized at 1400°F (760°C) and then cooled to 1300°F (705°) at a rate of 10°F/hour or alternately cooled to 1225°F (660°C) and held for 10 hours as an isothermal anneal.
Normalizing
1650°F (900°C) and air cool. This will be an important treatment for this grade.
Hardening
Be austenitized and quenched in water at 1525-1580°F (830-860°C).
Tempering
Taking place at 880-970ºF (470-520ºC).
9: Delivery condition
For hot rolled bar or hot rolled sheet, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, Black surface.
