7: S48C Steel Application
Machine parts: Due to its moderate strength and toughness, S48C is commonly used to manufacture machine parts such as bearings, gears, pins and connectors.
Manufacturing Tools: Due to its ease of machining, S48C is commonly used to manufacture hand tools such as knives, impact tools and pliers for general applications.
Vehicle components: S48C is also commonly used in the manufacture of parts for automobiles, motorcycles and other vehicles, such as shock absorbers, crankshafts and drive shafts.
Structural parts: S48C is suitable for the manufacture of structural parts that do not require particularly high strength, such as brackets, frames and connectors.
8: S48C Steel Heat Treatment
Annealing treatment: S48C is heated to an appropriate annealing temperature, generally ranging from 740°C to 800°C, held for a period of time and then slowly cooled to room temperature. Annealing treatment helps to improve the organization and plasticity of S48C, reduce residual stresses and improve machinability.
Normalizing treatment: Heat S48C to an appropriate normalizing temperature, generally ranging from 770°C to 820°C, hold for a period of time and then cool rapidly to room temperature. Normalizing will increase the hardness and strength of S48C at the expense of some of the toughness.
Hardening: Heat S48C to an appropriate quenching temperature, generally ranging from 800°C to 870°C, and then cool rapidly to room temperature. Quenching increases the hardness and strength of S48C carbon steel, but decreases the toughness.
Tempering: Normalized or quenched S48C is heated to an appropriate tempering temperature, generally in the range of 150°C to 300°C, held for a period of time and then cooled to room temperature. Tempering treatment reduces the hardness and strength of S48C carbon steel while increasing the toughness.

10: Delivery Condition
For hot forged bar, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, annealed/QT, rough turned/Black surface.
For hot rolled bar, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed/QT, Black surface.
For Cold Drawn bar, usually the delivery condtion is cold drawn, annealed/QT, peeled/black surface.
For hot rolled plate, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, milled/black surface.
For hot forged plate, usually the delivery condition is hot forged, normalized/annealed, milled/black surface.
