Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. All steel is carbon steel. Carbon steel is used to represent steel with carbon as the main alloying element.
In carbon steel, It is a type of steel with a carbon content between 0.02% and 2%, and very few other elements, and is also the highest yield metal material. It is usually used on metal parts that require strength, hardness, and wear resistance, such as cutting tools, steel cables, piano wires, springs, and cutting tools. After processing, the parts usually need to be further processed and tempered.
According to carbon content, there are four types of carbon steel.
Low carbon steel carbon (0.05-0.25%)
Medium carbon steel carbon (0.30-0.59%)
High carbon steel carbon (0.6-0.99%)
Ultra high carbon steel carbon (1.0-2.0%)
Mild steel is a carbon steel with a carbon content below 0.25%. It is also known as soft steel due to its low strength and hardness.
Low carbon steel models include Q195, Q215, Q235, Q255, and Q275. The grade of steel is composed of four parts in order: the letter representing the yield point (Q), the yield point value, the symbols for quality and quality (A, B, C, D), and the symbol for deoxidation method. In terms of chemical composition, the larger the grade, the higher the carbon and manganese content, and the more stable its plasticity.
It includes most ordinary carbon structural steel and a portion of high-quality carbon structural steel, mostly used for engineering structural components without heat treatment, and some used for mechanical parts that require wear resistance through carburization and other heat treatments.
Carbon steel generally contains small amounts of silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus. Carbon steel with higher manganese content (0.7% -1.2%) has good mechanical and processing properties. According to the content of impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus, it is divided into ordinary carbon steel (S ≤ 0.055%, P ≤ 0.045%), high-quality carbon steel (S ≤ 0.040%, P ≤ 0.040%), and high-grade high-quality carbon steel (S ≤ 0.030%, P ≤ 0.035%)
